The government should be allowed to start its own brand. Say that the government thinks a town or neighborhood needs more cheap food options. The government could open up a cheap grocery store, start cheap fast food franchises, lease a space to vendors to all sell food in one place, etc. If they thought somewhere needed cheap clothing options, they could open up a government-brand superstore with cheap clothes that people in the area would buy. If they thought they needed a private school for kids who want to do well in school and need to be taught separately from everyone else so they can move through material faster, they could open up a government-brand private school. They’d try to establish cheap options for needed resources, then they could move on to conquering mid-range and luxury brands. For administrative positions, they could use an advanced AI that’s currently being kept classified and was developed by government employees instead of private companies that always seem to be running out of money…and give all the profits earned back to the government. Since automation is almost here anyway, doing this would solve a lot of problems. Ethically, it would be similar to a famous billionaire starting his own company and having enough money to stay afloat long enough to draw in lifetime customers by starting off with really cheap prices. It’s a way to solve the automation/UBI/where’s the money for UBI even going to come from? argument while also giving other people the chance to start their own companies and try to fill in the map before the government establishes the businesses that are in need first.

If this is done, it will help people save money, add to the money the government can use to spend on its people, keep jobs in America instead of outsourcing as much of it as they can, and create a self-sustaining infrastructure that Americans will have access to in case of an emergency like war with China.

Edit: Lol a news article about this just came up in my Apple News thing. The one that came up on my phone was from Fox. For some reason I can’t find people talking about it in a subreddit for Democrats.

If you did burp, good, you excused yourself and are now known as one of the more polite old people in the neighborhood. If you don't, then because you didn't prep (to whatever extent possible), you’re now one of the old people that’s a little bit harder to be around. This article describes the people who either ignored barriers or took dirt road out of their doomed town. The part at the end about all the kids who died while home alone from cancelled school made me cry and realize if schools are closed for any hazardous conditions don’t let your boss sucker you into coming into work. These children died because conditions were too hazardous for school but not other workplaces apparently.

You should always assume that most people who hear the alarm won't know what it means.

This is a blindspot in most manufacturing environments, which leads to a ton of inappropriate responses. People running down hallways because they confuse an alarm that just warns that water temperature to the sewer is slightly too warm. People ignore pending emergency release alarms for a few minutes because they can't tell the difference between that and an actual emergency. (Edit: Just because there are different alarms doesn't mean that difference won't be misconstrued!)

Mostly, when alarms are just a Ding or siren, people waste time trying to figure out what the alarm means, instead of trying to solve the problem.

Simple sirens and dings are low effort, and slightly cheaper, so we run with it. I guaranfuckingtee you that in the face of this disaster, most city planner people will think the problem is an education one, and will waste time and money teaching half the citizens of their district something they'll forget in a year.

The only solution to this problem is to buy long range focused speakers that SAY exactly what the fuck is going on. Here is a video clip of one of these LRAD devices in action, from a helicopter. The first voice is from a megaphone. The second is from an LRAD

If you work in manufacturing, community preparedness, or anywhwere with a control room, please make an effort to push for priority alarms that have a readout instead of a Ding. Lives depend on it.

It’s clear as day in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states:

“No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, … who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

This requirement has already been applied to remove from public office Cowboys for Trump co-founder and former Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin in New Mexico.

Griffin was found guilty of a misdemeanor for engaging in insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, though he did not go inside the building. In doing so, Griffin violated his oath to “support and uphold the Constitution and laws of the State of New Mexico, and the Constitution of the United States.” The initial ruling removed Griffin from office immediately, and on appeal, the ruling was upheld by the New Mexico Supreme Court.

The 14th Amendment applies to any elected official -- whether a County Commissioner or the President of the United States. That means, it includes Donald Trump -- the person who directed an armed mob to march on the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of electors and the peaceful transfer of power.

At his Inauguration in 2017, Trump took an oath to protect the U.S. Constitution. Four years later, he violated that oath with his efforts to remain in office after losing reelection.

The violent insurrection was the culmination of a months-long project to try to overturn the results of a free and fair election. Trump tried to intimidate state officials into reversing the election by “finding” votes that did not exist. He recruited “alternative” slates of electors to cast unauthorized votes for him in the Electoral College. He invited extremists to the Capitol on January 6 to try to prevent the formal counting of electoral votes. And then, having been informed that members of the crowd were carrying deadly weapons, he sent them to the Capitol building -- which they invaded, threatening to find and assassinate lawmakers.

Trump continued to provide aid and comfort to the hundreds of assailants actively assaulting police officers when he did nothing but watch the extreme physical violence he had unleashed unfold on television.

According to sworn testimony by his closest aides, President Trump refused to call in the National Guard or any other support for the Capitol police, who were literally fighting for their lives to protect the lives of those within the building. Not only that, he tweeted further criticism of his own vice president, literally stoking the cries of “Hang Mike Pence!”

Trump’s betrayal of the Constitution is unconscionable and -- while the attempted coup was unsuccessful -- it led to the deaths of at least five people and severe injuries of hundreds more.

It was an insurrection. It was violent. It was a violation of Trump’s oath of office.

The 14th Amendment is clear, Trump is disqualified and must be barred from serving in elected office in America ever again. Sign the petition to tell election officials to keep Trump off the ballot now.
